Thankfully, we got most of the big items moved in one day. And I say most because the couches did not fit through the door. We tried the short way, long way, diagonal and all kinds of angles, but the doorway was just too narrow for our couches. We even meaured the dorrway to see if it would work once we take the door frames off. Nope. So off to the garage the couches went. I still have to take pics and post on Craigslist and sell the couches. What are they going to do in the garage? Collect dust.
The place was SO dirty when we moved. One of the kitchen counters changed colour when I wiped it. I mean this wasn't dust from a few weeks of not being clean. This place looked like it hadn't been cleaned for years! The seller's son lived in this unit and he lived like this? There were cobwebs IN the cupboards that had his food. The stove was gross and so was the carpet. This guy basically lived in dust and was ok with it. Mitch and I paid someone to clean the place. I couldn't handle not being able to breathe and sleep at night anymore. Honestly, while the cleaners could have done a much better job (they were not as thorough as I would have liked), I feel much better now.
We are also starting to realize just what it means to actually own the place and not rent. Now, I am not wishing that we didn't buy or anything, but I really haven't had to clean stairwells and basements. I have not had to remember when the garbage was being taken out and to move the garbage bins back to where they should be. We have renters and we need to do certain things because they affect other people also. Like having the renter call and say their outlets aren't working. Fixed it within one hour. How about that? We just had an electrician in that day and he played around with the breaker boxes in the basement and forgot to switch something back to being on.
There is so much that Mitch and I want to do, but since we don't have a money tree in our back yard, we seriously need to prioritize. Ever the dreamer, Mitch wants to do this and that and wishes all kinds of things. You know, I do too, but guess what? ONE thing at a time. That is all the Heid Pot O'Gold can handle at any given time. I can't wait for the day when we don't have student loan payments to worry about. It'll be much better then.
