It was a very long drive. I wondered how we had ever taken the trip to California just a year before. When we got to Milwaukee and checked in to the hotel, I was amazed by the hotel lobby. I wondered if we were in the right place. Place looked too fancy for our means. The Intercontinental was indeed where we were staying. Once we got up to our room, I realized why we were paying what we did. That room is by far the smallest I have EVER seen. In fact, I am sure it doesn't meet some sort of standard. It was hard enough for me to go around the bed to the window, imagine a wheelchair. The concert was in the River Theatre, just a few blocks down. I agreed to walk there because Mitch convinced me that it was really a waste to call a cab. Let's just say I was not dressed to be walking out in the cold. I was freezing by the time we got to the theatre. An hour before the show starts and the place was full of people already!
The concert was great. I had a tough time enjoying it because I got a run in my stocking and I hate that. I kept thinking that people are looking at it. Stupid yes, but common sense doesn't really work in situations like that. I was just upset the whole way home and since we fell asleep right away when we got back to the hotel, I suppose I still woke up annoyed about my stockings. Mitch and I argued about that whole thing. Apparently, I was making such a big deal about nothing. The thing is, it was a big deal. I wanted the vacation to go just perfect. I had four days off and I wanted to be happy and not worry about anything else. In retrospect, I guess I should have let it go, but things had just kept happening earlier that day that this kind of became a last straw. Of course, to Mitch it seemed like a trivial thing.
Instead of staying the second day, we asked the hotel to credit us and left that morning. I wasn't feeling Milwaukee and didn't want to stay another night. I don't think the cold weather helped at all. I sure didn't want to walk around anywhere. We did stop by Lake Michigan on our way back to St. Paul though. It is a beautiful sight.
We stopped at Cheesehouse Mousehouse on our way back. We thought it was a restaurant that we could sit and have some delicious dinner at. We found out that it is a cheese shop/deli. AMAZING cheese! I don't even like cheese that much or sandwiches, but I found this to be very good. We bought some cheese to take home. I got a habanero one. Awesome!
After all the fun, while it was nice to see our own bed, I was sad about having to go back to the grind. Oh well.
