Mitch and I both worked Christmas eve, so we had to drive, in the snow, to Cloud town after work and get to where Mitch's grandmother was. Huge family of Heids and relatives, most of whom I can't recognize. I am sure it's easier for them to remember the brown girl.
After a few hours there, we headed to Julia's for Christmas eve with mom and the family. I got tired of waiting for the kids to open gifts. Mostly, because they had so MANY! Definitely spoilt. But what do you do? They are still cute and you want to spoil them. Plus, what are nieces and nephews for if I can't spoil them?
I couldn't go to mass because of the heavy snow. We didn't attempt to drive home until hours later. We had to get home and prepare for Christmas with Steffie, Charith and Harshan Aiya. I was so tired and crabby by the time we got home. No sleep would do that to you.
At the end of the day, while hanging out with Katy Jo, Adam and Zach, I thought of everything we had and felt extremely lucky in that moment. Here we were, Mitch and I, together with our friends (minus Jeremy, sadly), having a fire, eating and drinking and playing games. We may not be rich, but we had very rich lives. We had with us, what money couldn't buy. Family, friends and love. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
