After a long drive, annoyed with the service, or the lack thereof in Butte and a night spent at a rest stop, we were in Washington on Friday! Finally! Mitch drove most of the way the whole trip. Thankfully! I drove a bit so Mitch could take a nap. Hills are not my thing. Sharp turns, uphill, downhill and the mother of all annoyances while driving, darn construction! I was glad to stop and let the expert handle the driving again.
So here we were, in Tukwila Washington, at Knight's Inn, the hotel Mitch booked during our stop at a McDonalds in Spokane, WA. First impression? Shady. That was ok though. I was here with my husband and nothing really could be that bad. Once we got our keys and went into our room for the night, my first impression was confirmed. The room was dark and musty. I sprayed the room with my sweet pea body spray. Yes, it now smelt like Bath and Body, but at least, it wasn't stinking. One look at the bathroom and I decided that a shower can wait.
We lay on the bed after getting some dinner from a nearby Jack in the Box and trolled on facebook before we fell asleep. With a baseball bat by the bedside. Just in case...
On Saturday morning, after somewhat of a restful sleep, we made the drive to Seattle to Zach and Catie's new home. If you haven't been to Seattle, here's an interesting fact-HILLS! There are hills everywhere! The whole city is hills! Needless to say, I was so glad that I wasn't driving. After finding a spot to park and catching up with our friends, we figured we were up for some walking around Seattle. There is really no better way than walking to experience Seattle.
Pike Place Market was awesome! And crowded. Oddly enough, I felt like I was in Sri Lanka. Market days in Sri Lanka are always this crazy. We walked around after that, just taking in the views of this busy city. We stopped at one of the piers to stare out at the great waters, saw a cool sculpture park. Oh, and something I almost forgot...we saw a park with some creepy statues. And trees with bright blue trunks. Yes, you read that right. Bright blue. It was a cool sight.
Anyways, back to our walk by the water. We saw the new ferris wheel by the pier they had just put in a few weeks ago. The line for it was way too long though. Mitch and I were getting pretty tired, so we decided to walk back to Zach and Catie's. What I didn't anticipate were the hills we had to climb back. My hummingbird heart (so called by many of my coworkers because it beats fast) and asthmatic lungs labored on the way back. I finally had to stop and sit for a while. After a few minutes of people watching and sitting, we resumed our climb back to the top.
While we were with Catie and Zach, we visited the student union at Seattle University, had dinner at Julia's on Broadway and stopped by Quality Food Center to grab some beer. So our night ended with video games, beer and conversation. Oh, and we watched Odin, the crazy cat doing all kinds of weird uncat things. All in all, a FUN day! I am so glad we were able to visit the Holkers!
